Émilien Pelletier, Ph.D., chair of the Symposium
Director of the Canadian Research Chair in Molecular Ecotoxicology of high latitude marine zones at the Institut des Sciences de la Mer de Rimouski (ISMER), Université du Québec à Rimouski. (UQAR). Émilien is leading projects on the valorization of bioactive molecules and fractions extracted from Echinoderms and other Invertebrates. In addition, he supervises a mass spectrometry laboraty dedicated to identification of natural molecules and pollutants in marine organisms in northern seas.
Jacques Gagnon, Ph.D., co-chair of the Symposium
Scientific Director, Marine Biotechnology Research Centre (MBRC) located in Rimouski. Jacques is responsible for the scientific program at the MBRC. He also acts as a scientist in charge of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology laboratory at MBRC. He also works on the identification of new biomarkers and screening of marine natural extracts for biological activities. The identification of these biomarkers will allow to develop new validated and quantitative biomarkers assays.
Lucie Beaulieu, Ph.D.
Professor at Université du Québec à Rimouski and member of Aquatic Products Technology Centre (MAPAQ laboratory). Lucie is working specifically in the field of bioactive peptides and proteins derived from fisheries by-products and from marine species less exploited. She aims to identify bioactive molecules with a potential for commercialization.
Julie Boyer, M.G.P.
Julie coordinates strategic files pertaining to innovation and networking in the fisheries and aquaculture sector at the Innovation and Technologies Directorate of the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ). She implements cooperative agreements between MAPAQ research centres and a variety of R&D and funding partners.
Alain Guillou, Ph.D.
Director of the Technology Transfer Centre (TTC) at the Marine Biotechnology Research Centre (MBRC). Alain is responsible for R&D scaling up processes and extract productions at the MBRC pilot laboratory. He is also in charge of relationship and communications with partner companies renting laboratory and office facilities at the MBRC.
Amélie Hupé M.B.A.
Marketing and business development agent at the Marine Biotechnology Research Centre at (MBRC). Amélie is responsible for marketing, communications and business development. She is specialized in international trade.
Karine Lemarchand, Ph.D.
Professor of marine bacteriology at ISMER since October 2003. Her studies are focused on microbial communities structure and dynamic in cold aquatic systems. In the biotechnology field, she focuses on bioprospecting and development of molecular tools for environmental monitoring.
Sylvie Levesque is acting as the secretary of the committee and is responsible for the logistic at the Symposium.
